Democrat or Republican?
I've always wondered about politics in the city of monroe. You see people run for office and some get elected to office and you wonder, are these people Democrats or Republicans?
I get a sense that most have been Democrats, but that doesn't stop them from hating each other. So why doesn't the city just go for partisan elections. Why wouldn't someone running for office -- for mayor for example -- just come out and say "I know city elections are non-partisan, but I want all you people to know I'm a moderate Democrat or a conservative Republican? Wouldn't that be a little more honest with the voters?
I don't think that's going to happen, but here's a little game: Tell me what party affiliation you think those now on city council are. Let's see if we can come up with a prevailing opinion.
I'll start with one. I think Paisley is a moderate Republican.

Since true Republicans support what the founders of the republic intended for the most part and Democrats give lip service to a false concept all people have equal rights to vote and depend on machine politics to make sure they vote early and often, I hope all who are elected are Republicans.
"... for the most part." That's pretty funny.
Actually it is good that there are no parties to choose from. Look at the last Gubernatorial election and House of Reps election. The majority went to the Democrats, even though there were many favorites and probably better candidates that were republicans. They lost out because Bush is Republican, and everyone knew that they needed Democrats to clean up all of the bad things with the country. Bullsnot!! There should be no parties, period. We should elect the best candidate for the job, period. Whether it be City, County, State, or Federal.
Dear Observer,
There is a historical paradox in my statement. If any party advocated what the founding fathers put in print in our founding documents, we would still have slavery and since slaves are property they vote as 3/5 of a man per their master’s wishes. Given the grim facts of history is “for the most part” a reasonable disclaimer?
I know that Iaco and Guyor are both liberal democrats.
Only a liberal democrat would seek to take away peoples freedom of speech and totally disregard the US Constitution over a parking validation program.
I'm guessing that Linda Compora is a liberal democrat, also. Anyone who is so anti industry must be planning on the government taking care of them. How else do they expect to survive without any employers?
Good old Bill Burkett I'm sure is a staunch democrat, and voted the way his Union handouts told him to without any further thought.
I for one am thinking of the Republican party as it sits today as a bunch of flaming liberals. I don't agree with social critic that Republican's "for the most part" do as the founders intended. They may be closer, but they are far off of the mark. How else do you explain that the polls for the Republican nomination are being led by a few east coast moderates / liberals in Republican garb? Where are the conservatives in that race? An actor from TN and a governor from AR?
Roundybout.
