Clowns hold carnival

The clowns at the chamber of commerce are at it again -- using a downtown parking lot for a personal fundraiser. It's okay to inconvenience a bunch of downtown residents, workers and shoppers for a whole week. Besides, it will drive carnival business to all the shops, stores and restaurants that stay open as late as the carny vendors.
Maybe not.
Maybe I shouldn't be so critical. You can't blame them for trying to help downtown. That's one of their main purposes. Isn't that why they moved the chamber offices to someplace on N. Dixie in Frenchtown where no one ever goes? Maybe they should hold the next carnival in the vacant field next to that place.

Joking, right? Last I checked Frenchtown Township was growing - how are the City numbers again? The chamber made a rational decision to move and that is there business, although I do think they should be "in the county seat" if you will.

The festival could and should be a great thing for downtown. Hopefully, all of the business will stay open and maybe even get involved by offering discounts on food or beverages. Oh, that's right this is Monroe, they seem to roll the streets up early.

How about holding it in the WalMart parking lot?

That seems to be the favorite hangout for the wrecks and reeks in Monroe County.

It should be a hit there!

Alacajun, surely you jest! This is a fundraiser for the Chamber at a location they don't have to pay for that gives much promotion to their fundraiser. How many of these people are going to stroll into restaurants and shops? They will bring all of their kids to ride rides and eat "fair food" and then pack up and leave. They aren't doing this to help anyone but themselves. Plus they are taking up much needed parking lots. Pay for the lot at the mall again, or like the observer said, have it on your own property.

No - I jest not, fine sir. Just let the carnival (honest). Picked up some food from a downtown restaurant (that was open) and went home.

Not too many people there - sadly. But, "J's Smokehouse" seemed to have a tent and understood the concept.

Sure, they don't pay for the lot - what's the point? Parking is not nearly the issue that people make it - honest, I live downtown and know.

Maybe getting folks downtown isn't a bad idea - is it? Who gives a care what somebodies motivation is as long as it brings in bodies. Worrying about (or rather questioning) others motivations is what caused the rift with the DMBN, Chamber, DDA, WOW! Monroe crowd in the first place.

Anyhow - I had fun and enjoyed a decent sandwich.
