Casting a chill on the ice fest

Was that John Patterson giving a little presentation on the ice festival at the city council meeting the other night? He made it sound like the best thing since the jazz festival. Even showed a somewhat cheaply made video of some of the highlights. I found it very informative.
He kind of glossed over the fact that some of the nice ice sculptures were vandalized. I thought sure that in the video Councilman Beneteau was going to say something like, yeah, the creeps ruined the nice gem sculpture in front of the family business. What a display of self-restraint. Or maybe it was filmed before the damage was done.
Was it the work of those nasty graffiti artists that seem to be all over?
Nooooo!
There are some who swear it was the artistry of a few drunken rowdys spilling out of that upstanding joint that thinks downtown Monroe needs a hot bikini contest in mid-winter.
You know the place -- it's where no upstanding Monroe citizens would want to hang out.
Luckily Monroe is a town with a lot of old-time religion that will cleanse all us sinners.
BTW, who was that babe that won that contest?

The only vandal to our sculpture was the sun. We had change frozen in our "diamond" and gave away a gift certificate to the closest guesser. Early contestants could actually count the change, but once the sun hit it, the ice cracked like when you drop a cube in a glass of warm water. Next year we will have a UV blocking awning to cover the sculpture. It still stood for the weekend, and looked great when new, but a good weather day with sunshine is a bad day for ice sculptures.

By the way, the vandal who tagged "Zink" all over Monroe was caught and sentenced, and is scheduled to pay restitution. I wish the MEN would print his fines and costs in order to keep others from following his guidance when spring comes around.

A few upstanding citizens, and several Councilmen do go to the bar which had the contest. Although I was unable to make it there myself, the winner was Kay McLaughlin, who works as a bartender there. And before my secret anonymous fan makes some comment about how I know who she is, it is because I went to high school with her parents. Besides, our good Catholic upbringing teaches us that God forgives all sin, so I am safe no matter what, as are all of you.

There are three types of people:

Doers like Paterson

Non-doers which is most of us

Finally the sorry keeper of this bag of puss, a person lower than whale crap that must look up to see the tooting holes of the doers and non-doers.

What is this crap with Charlie Slat and Willie Hall? Why is Willie doing anything news. So he goes back home so someone gets shot at his funeral. Is this news? Was it news when Willie got his sorry butt fired from Mac Steel for inappropriate advances n a female employee. O’ well at least he aint queer like Little Richard, The Queen or Rock and Roll. I expect nothing form NAACP Willie but moral turpentine.

Observer,

Why are you a hater? Why do you hate Paisley and Beneteau? Are you jealous?

Those who can do. Those who can't "Observe."

Observer,

Why would you criticize people for patronizing downtown establishments?

Why do you spread lies about vandalism downtown?

In Monroe we are lucky that we have upstanding citizens with Brian's abilities that are willing to serve and have the courage to set the record straight.

I wish John Patterson would have promoted that contest at the bar as much as the Ice Festival. I would have liked to support that.

We are lucky to have a forgiving God. All we have to do is repent, and our sins are forgiven. Unfortunately I don't agree that everyone on this blog is safe from their sins. First you must admit your are a poor miserable sinner, be sorry for your sins, and repent. That step may be difficult for some.

Observer - why no witty retraction of your original allegations? You would rather sulk under your anonymous cover?

In speaking with Mr. Patterson there was some vandalism. But, stupid people are every place and this should not deter folks from enjoying the art.

John Patterson is a doer - as an earlier poster stated. Problem is he tends to embellish what he can or does accomplish. Yes, the Jazz Festival is successful, but, who does all the production work? Not John. The Ice Fest, in it's second year has the potential to be nice, too bad the folks that proposed the event are not helping to conduct it. Sure the gospel festival could be nice, too bad the main contacts for gospel music in Monroe (or Toledo) are not invited into the fold. Sadly, John likes to take things over instead of thinking up his own ideas. Again, remind everyone who "created" Custer Week?

Anyhow - my only question is John's number of 20 million visitors to Monroe County (his explanation is that this number includes people who live out of the county but work in Monroe - along with some other strange justifications). 20 million, really, Monroe county truly gets 10% of the entire population of the US visiting in a single year? Really?

BTW - I tried counting the change at Frenchies but lost track. I did have better luck with the coins in the piggy bank at MB&T.
