Catching up
Been under the weather lately but all through my illness a nagging question has been weighing on me.
I didn't see the last city council meeting, but then I saw the story in the Monroe Snooze about how the city decided not to take away all the tax breaks that were granted to the Monroe Ford plant that's shutting down. I don't have a strong opinion on whether they should or shouldn't pull the string on those tax breaks. Here's what I can't figure out. How is it that a mostly brand new city council decides an issue involving $5 million in tax breaks to a company that's eliminating a bunch of jobs and no one says boo about it? Even if you fully understood why that might be done, don't you figure you owed your constituents an explanation? According to the Snooze, it wasn't even discussed, but was passed as part of the consent agenda and apparently no one even asked that it be pulled.
Maybe it was fully discussed in some other meeting, or maybe it was part of a deal made by a previous council. Maybe I'll have an ordinary citizen pose that question at the next meeting, unless someone can explain it to me before then.

I asked my councilman to see why it wasn't discussed. I would fill you in but I have replied before and if you don't like the answer you just censor it out. So the best advice I can give you is to call your councilman or woman.
Would it matter that a brand new council or a stale old council made the call? After all, aren't they all being presented the facts by an expert staff trained in making decisions for the benefit of the city? Doen's seem brain surgery would be a wise choice with a brand new doctor, but then again, this isn't brain surgery, is it?
Why not waddle out and ask yourself. Identify yourself as the Observer, ask your question, get a long drawn out answer you probably won't understand, then go home and watch yourself on tv for a couple of weeks. Join the Lampoons as regulars on the meetings.
Observer,
You could have gotten up off your death bed and went to the meeting and gotten that item pulled.
You also could have sent the clerk a letter and requested it be read at the meeting.
This post is beyond stupid.
You didn't bother to do something when it mattered, and now you want to make an issue of something that is not an issue.
Unbelievable.
Roundybout.
Great answers all, but it sheds absolutely no light. You shouldn't have to ask a councilman.
What would happen if every citizen who had a question about unexplained actions went to their councilmen to get an answer. After about a week, everybody would resign. But thanks for all the help and illumination, y'all.
Observer, You may know who I am but I can assure you that through a very direct process I intend to find out who you are and expose your identity. You may not print this however when you chose to play the political game you subject yourself to the potential to become a political target yourself. Its very clear you enjoy the fact that most dont realy know who you are however there are legal means to flush you out and hold you accountable for the statements you make on this site. Heres your word of the day " publishing ". Look it up with your attorney. Youll need to understand this term. Internet law is a very new and upcoming segment of American Judicial Standards. We"ll see how well you understand it as well as how it applies to you. Maybe then we'll put the term OBSERVER in its rightful place regarding Monroe Politics.. Looking forward to seeing you soon!!!!
I'm not the one bothered by the decision - you are. I don't care to know the answer, you appear to want it.
So, why didn't you get it pulled? Why don't you call the councilmember? Why don't you ask the city manager?
I don't really care, so I didn't bother.
What is your excuse?
Are you just lazy and stupid? Are you just looking for things to complain about after the fact? Are you just trying to turn a good decision into an issue?
Instead of sitting here and anonymously posting BS on your blog why don't you pick up the phone? Is it because you are afraid to ask stupid questions out in the open? You just want to complain, but you really don't want to be involved in the process?
I suspect the city will end up with the property to add to the ports collection of underutilized assets. Probably pulling their tax exempt status would make that negotiation go poorly. Is that what you are trying to get at?
Again - I really don't care, so I'm not asking the question. Why don't you ask it? Why don't you ask what the closed door meeting for the real estate deal was on Feb 19? Maybe the port wants to buy more property downtown to use for a library.....

I guess Roundybout explained it best. You didn't request the item to be explained, the informed council made the vote, and now you want to complain. Call the City Manager if you don't want to call your councilperson for an explanation. Every item on the agenda is not discussed in detail at every meeting. Imagine how long and boring those meetings would be. Just wondering if you ever went and got an explanation on how the city acquired the United Furniture building, or how a $100,000 splash park turned into a $200,000 one? You see. If you choose to not get off of your ass and make a phone call or go to a meeting to ask to have an item explained to you, you leave the decision to pass the item up to the elected council. If every single agenda item had to be discussed and explained in detail at every meeting, then you would have everyone resign.
You really should un moderate this blog. Some conversations could take place daily, but you don't check this or update every day. Please consider this, and thank you if you decide to do this.
Rick,
Why don't you haul your own large ass down to the meeting if you have a question? You can bitch at the police chief some more.
Fortunately I doubt very many of our councilmembers really care what you think.

Wow! Some of my loyal readers apparently haven't taken their medication. Here's a suggestion: If you don't like what you read here, just go away, unless you have no self-discipline or will. Sheesh!
The Observer is right Smith- just go away! Seems you are the only one posting under 5 different names but we all know that it's your sick, twisted self.
Interesting that U should mention being able to flush the Observer out legally- I was just going to suggest to all of the others that you have libeled on this blog to do the same. What a piece of human excrement you are- sure would be some good entertainment when your vile ass is before the Judge again only for libel this time- should really cost you some $$$ this time. Basically I think people are just sick of your lunatic rantings and they know who you are- better watch what you print about people- it could and will catch up with you and I'll be right there to laugh at your sorry ass while you're crying in the court room but from what I've read on here everyone that you've written lies about will sure have the opportunity to take a piece of what ever junk you own!
Now- let's get back to the council meeting- your friend Beneteau looks like an ass up there! The two new guys sure show him up with their intelligence of which Beneteau is short on. Here is a councilman who has criticized other people on this blog under an anonymous postings and when he is criticized chooses to write under his own name and becomes the bully that he is wanting the poster to call him. My advice to the Beneteau kid is to suck it up and take the criticism like all the other politicians have to do and if he can't take it- better vacate the seat- seeing as he gave plenty to other people under the anonymous moniker- funny he can't seem to take it himself!
In my opinion lousy councilperson, arrogant, immature and obviously has learned very little in 2 years while Clark and Molenda show him up at every meeting! Love the show!! Thanks for the entertainment Beneteau! Just can't seem to help yourself can ya?
And Smith- why is it that everyone that posts here you think is Floraday? There are people out there who just don't like Paisley and Beneteau! They and you will just have to get over it!
The movers and shakers on this new council are Clark and Molenda hands down - Beneteau and Paisley don't even fit into the mix. They were no good 2 years ago and are still that way- each elected by a stroke of luck not by their merit. Paisley's 80 vote win is not a mandate and Beneteau is only up there because the people in his precinct don't want to be bothered- betcha if someone ran against him he'd go down like a domino house!
Again- my hat is off to the Observer - he knows just what buttons to push to get the twisted mind of Smith in a tizzy- knows just how to get the good for nothing ass going- we'll see how stupid those people on Toll St are that he keeps libeling... they could be living on Hollywood Dr. if he keeps up the libeling. Bet he thinks it can't happen- got another think comin' for him!
Ruin other people's lives for the sport of it is gonna come back to haunt this jackass for a good long time! Wonder if Beneteau or Paisley will give him a place to live free gratis when he has to give up his home to pay off the libel suits that are coming his way?
And BTW Smith you ARE JAFO!
Observer,
I would educate you, but I consider trying to educate retards a waste of time and effort.
I take that back. Considering you a retard would be insulting to true retards.

Wow Anonymous, you sure do hate me don't you? Tell you what, I'll be sure to pray that your hatred of me turns into a more productive form of communication that can help this City out. Since I am doing such a bad job in your opinion, why not help out the City and shine a light for me. I am always willing to listen and learn from such a wise person. Please feel free to contact me if you feel that your opinion can count for more than angry banter. Again, thank you for your comments. God Bless You!
Beneteau
I highly doubt that any "praying" you do will change my opinion of you.
For starters, while you're at it why don't you pray that your arrogance evaporates. Now THAT will do the City some good! Better yet vacate your seat. I don't see you contributing to making this City a better place unless you consider hanging out in bars doing your "civic" duty.
You are a public official therefore you are open to public criticism. If you can't take it get out.
As I see it you're only taking up space anyway with nothing of substance to offer compared to Clark and Molenda.
And BTW GROW UP!
Again, thank you. No point in carrying on further conversation with you. I have extended an invitation for you to call and give me some of your tremendous insight, however you would rather lurk in the darkness and be bitter for your own personal reasons. Your criticism does not bother me in the least bit. I simply consider the source. You want me to "grow up" however it is you hiding out in the anonymous world of the internet, afraid to have your real name out there.
Praying for you is not to change your opinion of me, it is simply to pray that you could add something productive to help our City. There is no arrogance there, just a humble prayer for you and your family. Also, I do not hang out at bars. I do on occasion go out with friends and co-Council after meetings for conversation and good will. You are more than welcome to join us if you care to help us all out with your intelligence.
Good day!
