Just a question

Does anyone know if businesses can contract with the city to clear their walks of snow?
I ask because I saw a city snow sweeper machine clear a sidewalk in front of a business and not clear the adjacent businesses. I would like to think that this is because of a contract between the business and the city and not because the business owner might have some special connections to the city.
This was in the downtown area but I'm not about to name names.

If you truly had the balls you think you do - you would name names and not act like a little schoolgirl spreading gossip by the swings at recess.

Hey, I saw that too. A skidsteer and a big front end loader were clearing all of the sidewalks downtown. Every business owner and every building owner must be in cahoots with someone at the City.

I guess you just have to know someone. Too bad you don't, or they could have come over to your double wide and cleared your sidewalks also.

Both these comments are asinine. Unlike some people who comment here, I don't take unfounded shots at anyone I care to. If someone can tell me that business owners can legitimately contract with the city, the observation is irrelevant. If that's not the case, I will have no problem naming names. And the city DOES NOT CLEAR all of the sidewalks downtown. Some people should visit downtown more frequently and you'd know that. Now if anyone can legimately answer the question I posed, I'd appreciate it. Maybe one of the new city council members can chase this one down.

Building owners cannot contract with the City for the clearing of their sidewalks. They may, however, contract with Jacks Lawn Service, Floral City Tree Service, or even Noel Lawn Care.

The City WAS clearing ALL of the sidewalks. It was at the end of the business day, and they also cleared the parking spots. This is all fact, not fiction.

There's your legitimate answer, so let's get on with the finger pointing and name some names.

Man, we're so damn smart, aren't we?
You don't even know what snow I'm talking about. You can't tell me that a lawn service uses equipment with a city seal on the side and you can't tell me they were clearing all the sidewalks when it was a patchwork that was being done. I watched this happen and in a few days I'll watch again and this time I'll give a few precise locations, then the city manager can weigh in and explain it all. They were not clearing ALL the sidewalks the day I saw it. But that doesn't necessarily make it right even if they were, because they have to stop somewhere, so somebody gets left out. Now if you really want to make yourself seem more ignorant than you are, keep yapping about how the city cleans everybody's sidewalks downtown. In fact, I would welcome a few people to chime in and talk about how their sidewalk or their neighbor's just doesn't manage to get cleaned by the city whenever ALL THE SIDEWALKS are cleaned by the city. It just doesn't happen unless you live in a tiny little tunnel vision world where you don't notice anything but what goes on in your own little stretch of block. And if I'm not mistaken, the city ordinance requires snow clearing within 12 hours or something like that. It doesn't say if you can't manage to find time by the end of the business day the city will take care of it for you. But I guess it's understandable since we have all that money and gas to burn.

Good time to check it out tonight. Get some pictures of the favorable properties, or go back to your school girl rumour session.

Probably talking about the City maintaining the Mainstreet Office sidewalks. What a waste of tax dollars. They don't do anything but put on a country concert for $25,000. Should close up the office. Nobody ever goes there anyways, except for the meetings. Waste, waste, waste. I as a taxpayer worry about this mis use of tax money.
