Yeah, it's scary isn't it?
Bill Sisk was picked as chairman of the Monroe County Board of Commissioners tonight.
Loyal readers of this blog might remember that yours truly predicted this on Nov. 15, shortly after the general election.
It's scary, isn't it?
No, the scary part for anyone watching the meeting was how uncontentious this selection process was. Sisk was elected unanimously, with no obvious opposition. And Jerry (The Bull) Oley (Ole'), the outgoing chairman, nominated him.
Hey, this wasn't cut and dried was it?
Look for a lot of good things to come from this cooperative board in the year ahead. All the members must own stock in a cell phone company or something. Who can forget Sisk's last uneventful stint as chairman?
From this organizational meeting, it looks like the county board sessions might end up being just as scripted as the Monroe City Council meetings.
Looks like we're in for a very HAPPY New Year.

How scripted was the City Counsel meeting the other night. Nice argument between the Mayor and Councilman Compora. Guess that bitch can't get along with anyone!
She is so full of crap that it is not funny. If I lived in her precinct I would be ashamed that she was the best that we could do.
I could not believe Oley's comments about Zorn in the snooze. I don't know if Zorn was the best they could do. I do know that they sure did better this year at picking a chairman then they did last year!!!!
Linda should have been looking at the bottom line when her buddy John and his henchmen Manns were in charge.
They spent money like it was going out of style. Well I guess it was given that the city is now broke.
Thanks Linda. We owe you one. And we are going to pay it back this year when we boot your worthless butt out of office.
heres what you get with bill sisk - giving away the county checkbook to his pals
TAXPAYERS BEING STUCK WITH A BILL FOR A BENEFIT EVEN THEY CAN’T GET
In the interest of our community the Monroe County Board of Commissioners is about to unveil a unprecedented settlement agreement with a group of retired (Sheriff Department) employees that will potentially cost the County taxpayers close to one million dollars $1,000,000,000 TUESDAY August 28, 2007 at 7:00p.m in the board chambers. The 21 claimants in this case lead by retired Sheriff Department employee Capt. Thomas Hoffman believes that the BOC and the taxpayers should pay for his Social Security Part B benefits under the current Medicare program. He believes he is entitled to this because his contract at the time he retired stated that the county would maintain his current benefits as he had while being employed. Under close scrutiny by the county's legal team it's their opinion that the county and taxpayers are NOT responsible for paying for a government benefit plan for him. No retired employee in the County of Monroe has ever had this paid for to date but Mr. Hoffman was able to convince 21 POAM retirees to join him in his lawsuit. Another 38 POAM retirees chose not to sue the county obviously because they didn't believe they were entitled to this taxpayer paid benefit. The board had some discussion about this group in close session particularly in 2007 on several occasions according to their minutes of their meetings and there was some suggesting that this group receive the same payoff settlement, which is included in the amount above. In July 2007 the BOC went back into open session at 11:45pm and Commissioner Fredrick’s made a motion to include this group and was supported by Commissioner Fowler. Consequently, Commissioner Oley made an objection to their action based in part that the public had zero knowledge this was going to take place. Commissioner Fredrick the maker of the motion agreed to remove his action request after a legal review was requested. This action happened close to midnight.
This lawsuit has been on going since 2003 and is complex however, the Board of Commissioners has always believed that it was important to defend this case based on strong legal advice that the county does not owe them this benefit and that this case as quoted in various documents and communications from their legal advisors Dykama Gossett that the county has a strong case and should arbitrate as previously directed by the BOC's to protect the County from funding a plan that was never negotiated or implied to these individuals and has over 20 years of past practice of not paying for this benefit This is also evidence that Mr. Hoffman and others involved in this lawsuit backed certain candidates or commissioners in order to get favorable results in the last Commissioner election. In this case, the lead compliant Mr. Hoffman and others gave campaign contributions to three of these current commissioners during this past election cycle. Now the new board of commissioner’s leadership has fought vigorously to get this group positive result regardless of the cost to us the taxpayers!!!
The new leadership has put an incredible amount of undue pressure on the County of Monroe attorneys in the past few months and forced them to negotiate a settlement of their liking which is the one that will be voted on soon. Even the county’s attorneys wrote and documented in a previous communications to all the board members that some commissioners were actually having discussions with the plaintiffs outside of the entire board presence, which severally impeded their ability to defend the County of Monroe. Even more distressing was when the county's attorney contacted the (plaintiffs) attorney to see if an amicable solution was even possible their attorney stated that he and his clients could do much better based on certain commissioners talking to his clients outside of the entire board.
This clearly exhibits unethical behavior on a part of certain County Commissioners and if not criminal. A major injustice is about to take place unless the PUBLIC comes the next Board of Commissioners meeting to protest their ineptness and total disregard of public trust.
PLEASE SHOW UP AND TELL YOUR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO BE FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE!!!!
Tuesday 28, 2007 7:00pm Board Chambers.
