Maybe it is un-American
I put up a few Christmas lights over the weekend. They pale in comparison to the light displays I've seen at other homes in the neighborhood. I've seen and heard complaints from people that some folks put up Christmas lights way too early. It seems like people who don't put up their lights early kinda resent the folks who do.
Then I started thinking. There is something to be said for not putting up any lights at all -- or at least not trying to outdo your neighbor. After all, it only means you'll pay a higher power bill. That means you'll have less to spend on necessities for your family, or unnecessary Christmas gifts.
Then there's the cost to the environment. The more power we use, the more pollution there is somewhere. Sure, the pretty lights might light up your kids eyes. But let's not overdo it or those kids may end up being 30-year-old asthmatics.
It's time to see the light.

Interesting observation!
This morning at MBT building, the Chamber held its annual Koffee Klub (their spelling). I saw all kinds of different business people from all over the County, as well as elected officials from various City, Village, and Townships. Our own City of Monroe had two elected officials show up, Councilwoman Compora and Councilman Beneteau. Why was this an interesting observation? Beneteau sat with the police chief, and other department heads, (I believe building dept., water, and another woman I didn't recognize but was told she was a dept. head also) but Compora came in with former Mayor John Iacoangeli. Guess the rumors that City hall employees have bad morale because of this administration are false. Seemed like by the way this group acted throughout the ceremony, they get along pretty well.
Seems that the other rumors that Compora is still tight with Mayor Ico and is doing his mouthpiece work may be true. They were also spotted together at Congressman Dingell's Christmas party, although they didn't stay long. Seems that most intelligent taxpayers in the City are seeing this, as evidenced by the letters to the editor recently. Maybe there is more going on than we know.
Oh well, just observing Monroe as well.
This is really interestiing. It shows how far out of the loop I am on this stuff. I have not heard rumors that morale at the city was bad. I have seen no evidence that Madame IKO and Mayor Iko are on the outs. I don't think that will ever happen unless Mayor Iko plants a skunk in her car or something. Unfortunately, as long as people remember the IKO fiasco, Madame IKO will remain pretty bulletproof, regardless of who she associates with. But I've been wrong before.
